Dr. Amity Pierce Buxton Joins The Stanford Who’s Who Network
OAKLAND, CA, May 8, 2012 /Stanford Who’s Who/ — Amity Pierce Buxton, PhD has earned recognition in the exclusive ranks of premier professionals with Stanford Who’s Who as a result of her spectacular effort in the social services industry. Throughout her brilliant professional career, Amity has consistently demonstrated the passion, vision and dedication necessary to be considered among the elite.
Dr. Pierce Buxton is the Founder of the Straight Spouse Network, which is an international organization dedicated to providing personal, confidential support and information to heterosexual spouses/partners, current or former, of gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender mates and mixed-orientation couples for constructively resolving coming-out problems. The organization offers research-based information about spouse, couple, and family issues and resources to other family members, professionals, community organizations, and the public.
Amity served in the roles of Director and Executive Director of the Straight Spouse Network between 1991 and 2007, and is currently a non-voting member of the organizations Board of Directors. She currently serves as a member of the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Bisexuality and the Journal of GLBT Family Studies. Amity also serves on the Board of Directors of the Catholic Association for Lesbian and Gay Ministry and the Emeritus Board of the Family Equality Council.
During her collegiate career, Amity earned a PhD in English. She is the author of The Other Side of the Closet: The Coming-Out Crisis for Straight Spouses and Families, which spotlights the subject of same-sex attraction by a spouse in a straight marriage and reports constructive coping strategies that spouses and children have used to resolve problems of sexual damage, family breakdown, deception, and homophobia.
